Case walk-throughs: how a standing-water event plays out

Every Case walk-through here is invented. The houses are typical of Wheat Ridge's mid-century ranch stock, but the people, dates and outcomes are made up to show decision points: what was extracted, what had to be removed, what was missed, and which early choices made the drying shorter or longer.

Every example here is illustrative, built from common situations. None is a real job, customer or address.

  1. Illustrative case: the leak under the floor A made-up homeowner notices a higher bill and a musty smell, then finds water in the crawlspace. The story follows discovery, extraction, subfloor checks and follow-up.
  2. Illustrative case: when the floor drain pushes water up A made-up family faces sewage-laden water through a basement drain. The story highlights keeping people out, calling the right parties and removing porous materials.
  3. Illustrative case: the pipe that thawed into a ceiling A fictional household returns from a trip to find a stained ceiling and wet floors after a cold snap. The story shows shutoff, ceiling safety, extraction and drying.
  4. Illustrative case: the sump pit that overflowed A made-up family watches a sump pit fill during a thunderstorm. The story covers checks, a temporary pump, slow lowering of the water and fixes for the next storm.
  5. Illustrative case: the water heater that split overnight A made-up household finds a basement utility room flooded in the morning. The steps, the mistakes and the outcome show how clean water becomes a bigger problem when left.
  6. Illustrative case: the window well that filled up A made-up bedroom window leaks when its well fills with runoff. The story follows removal, wall moisture checks and the drainage changes that might prevent a repeat.
